Someone will always find a reason not to work safely. "I didn't know", "I didn't have time", "I lost my PPE", "nothing will happen" , etc. are some popular justifications. An "it won't happen to me" attitude is among the worst justifications for not working safely. This justification conveys a mindset that is determined to carry out a task unsafely or demonstrates that a person is depending on luck to stay safe while on the job.
The understanding of and stance on workplace safety.
The value of experience cannot be replaced. Most of the time, experience enables us to perform more effectively and safely, but this isn't always the case. A higher level of risk tolerance or complacency might result from experience. An employee may have the attitude that "it won't happen to me" if they have been performing the same task or working in the same field for a long time.
Although this does not preclude newer employees from having the same attitude, it is frequently very seasoned workers who fall into this trap. We have all heard tales of seasoned workers or supervisors suffering major injuries as a result of their complacency regarding known risks. It's important to be aware of how you feel about workplace safety.
At Kendall we ask everyone to be their Brother’s/Sister’s Keeper to ensure all team members are following safe work practices and avoiding the dangerous mentality of thinking incidents cannot happen to them.
